To make sure that they are not left behind as far as going the eco-friendly route, Renault has partnered with Gestamp Solar to unveil its solar panel project which reportedly covers 4,843,760 sq. ft. of land over in France. The solar panel project will reportedly be able to generate 60 MW which should help cut down the CO2 emissions of the company by about 30,000 tons a year.
The project stands to show up the own alternative power initiatives made by Ferrari and Audi as far as the automotive industry is concerned. The solar panel installation is expected to be completed by February 2012, where the solar panels will cover an area equivalent to 63 football fields and generate enough electricity to power a town of 15,000.
The solar roof project is part of Renault’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint by 10 percent by 2013 and a further 10 percent by 2016.
