Many of us should feel lucky that we don’t have to live and grope in the dark. Sadly, such could not be said for millions of refugees who have to make do with limited resources ranging from studying until going to the toilet.
IKEA and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have however collaborated to make some of those functions come true with these solar powered lamps made for refugee camps. With light a scarce need for these displaced refugees, IKEA plans to donate a EURO for every IKEA LEDARE LED bulb sold globally.
The funds will help provide solar street lamps and indoor lanterns in UNHCR refugee camps, improve power supply and renewable energy technologies, and boost primary school education in refugee camps in countries such as Ethiopia, Chad, Bangladesh and Jordan. Providing light to refugee camps will make them safer and more suitable homes for children and families.
