Solar Powered Traffic Lights
One of the forgotten objects in society when you are driving would have to be the standard public traffic lights, which like most electronic devices, are run by power. While they are normally paid for by the government, they too are included in the rehabilitation efforts and finding alternative sources of power. Utilizing solar power to operate these tradtional powered traffic lights can be a really big boost.
Perhaps most parts of the world would do well to take their cue from New Delhi which has devised a new way to run their traffic lights using solar power.
‘‘The signals are made of maintenance-free LEDs which offer clear visibility even during adverse weather conditions. They are eco-friendly and consume very little power, fitted with countdown timers to save fuel and reduce pollution levels. They also have vehicle actuated traffic controllers for better efficiency,’’ said a senior spokesperson of the firm, who added that they are in talks with the Delhi Traffic Police for installation of signals.
