The Amish embrace solar power
Strange as it may seem, the Amish who have always turned their back on technology and other advancements that we all take for granted, have apparently seen solar power as their preferred source of electricity.
Famous for using horse drawn buggies, instead of cars the Amish in Holmes County, Ohio, one of the largest Amish communities, have installed solar power units to around 80% of their homes, granted that their need for power is slightly different to the rest of us, but they do have requirements for light and for household appliances, whereas they were using gas etc, but solar power is safe, clean and it serves as another way for them to keep off the grid so to speak, they can remain cut off from the mains and continue to live their lives how they choose.
This is a great example of how solar power can be used in the residential environment, and should be seen as a good example of how solar power can be a great addition to the home, clearly it will not completely take over from the mains, but it can help.
