UK Churches to Get Help to Go Green
According to Scotsman News, churches in the United Kingdom are going to get a helping hand when they decide it’s time to go green!
The General Assembly has decided to provide financial contributions for solar power and wind turbine projects, as well as other forms of non-specified eco-friendly renovations.
However, the move was not made without reservations. ”I think this is an excellent idea, in theory, but church buildings, by their very nature, are used for a very small proportion of the week,” John Stirling, an elder from Dumbarton Presbytery, said. “If we were to invest a large amount of money in putting solar panels in, I just wonder about the cost when placed against the return.”
Yet those who made this decision remain optimistic! “We can make a real difference here. Given the size of the Church of Scotland, if we start installing the likes of solar panels on a wider scale, then it will give a real boost to the Scottish renewables industry,” Rev. Michael Goss of Angus Presbytery declared. “It’s the realisation by congregations that something can be done and should be done, there is a real emergency here. This is an opportunity for us to send a message out that we care for the world.”
This is certainly an interesting development and I’m excited to watch it unfold!
