Sleep deprivation is a serious condition even though most of us are guilty of not taking it seriously. In fact it also leads to stress, something which was confirmed by a recent Huffington Post survey. Depending on sleeping pills or anxiety is not a healthy solution and this is where yoga kicks in.
Yoga is known to lower the stress levels and calms the mind and soul and hence many see it has a natural sleep remedy. Practicing certain poses have known to combat restlessness and insomnia.
“We live in such a fast-paced environment and our senses are always being stimulated, and that affects our nervous system,” says Vyda Bielkus, yoga teacher and trainer, and founder of Health Life Yoga. “The yogic technique of focusing on your breath can be helpful — the exhalation stimulates the nervous system to release … the poses also help us relieve tension from the physical body.”
