Toyota Hybrids Plugging in by 2010

Toyota Hybrids

As far as car manufacturing is concerned, a lot of them are mapping out plans today on how to provide the new wave of transportation vehicles and gas relying ones are surely not it. Hybrid cars which feast on electricity are the new demand today and for Japan manufacturer Toyota, these hybrid cars will be complete for distribution to the US and Europe.

For now, the groundwork is being laid down. The new technology needed will certainly excite most Toyota patrons, especially the ones who have used their cars for some years now.

Toyota is introducing a plug-in hybrid with next-generation lithium-ion batteries in Japan, the U.S. and Europe by 2010, under a widespread strategy to be green outlined Wednesday.

The ecological gas-electric vehicles, which can be recharged from a home electrical outlet, will target leasing customers, Toyota Motor Corp. said. Such plug-in hybrids can run longer as an electric vehicle than regular hybrids, and are cleaner.

Lithium-ion batteries, now common in laptops, produce more power and are smaller than nickel-metal hydride batteries used in hybrids now.

Legalizing the Three Wheeled Electric Vehicles

Zap Xebra

In some states such as Ohio, there are laws governing the proper classification of vehicles that can travel in their streets. The ideal definition of allowed vehicles does not include three wheeled vehicles like the Xebra Sedan, an electric powered vehicle that is sure to be a good way to stave off the growing pains of fuel and oil prices. In fact, they cannot be registered.

But with the call for alternative means of transportation that can be powered by something else other than the standard lead fuels, these three-wheeled vehicles similar to motorcycles are sure to be a good exemption to existing laws for the good of environmental and financial concerns in play today.

Federal standards classify most three-wheeled electric vehicles as motorcycles, but, as The Plain Dealer reported last month, the vehicles cannot be registered in Ohio.

Ohio’s definition of a motorcycle says it must have saddles, not seats, for drivers. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles pulled the title and registration of the first person in the state to register a Zap Xebra three-wheeler.

The motorcycle definition outlawed both the Xebra and Myers Motors’ NmG (no more gas) electric vehicles. Myers is a Tallmadge company that sells a single-passenger electric three-wheeler capable of hitting 76 mph.

The Time Has Come for Electric Scooters

Electric Scooters

People are now aggressively looking for green transportation alternatives owing to the outrageous oil prices that have beset us today. While many would not want to shy away from their usual convenient luxury cars, the shift is direly needed if they are to survive the world and help promote an alternative way of getting from one place to another.

For local folks, electric scooters are slowly being an option. These are slowly being unleashed in the market and while they take away a portion of the usual comfort that our large gas guzzling cars give us, they are able to save a lot as well and travel from one place to another at their convenience and privacy.

“The strongest factor that would encourage any consumer today to switch to electric vehicles is the ridiculously high oil prices. People need a sustainable solution. Electric vehicles besides being economical also help in protecting the environment,” reasons Girish M Rakhe, President, India Operations, RECC.

Looking for Rare and Classic Electric Vehicles?

If you’re looking for classic, rare, used, or vintage electric vehicles, give eBay Motors a spin. I just wrote on such rare electrice vehicle, a 1980 AMC Hornet.

The AMC Hornet was produced by a now defunct outfit called Solargen, and this rare beauty i wrote about was made in 1980, and needless to say, there aren’t many around like it. According to the eBay seller, it was in storage in Indiana for some time, before they he got his hands on it, to auction off.

The AMC Hornet that was up for auction did not include the battery, explanation unknown. I presume this is more of a collectors item, than something you’re going to ride around town with. The rare electric car did sell at a final bid of $5,300 with a starting bid of $3,500.

I wonder what the new owner is going to do with it? Sell it for more, fix it and drive it, or just keep it as part of an EV collection. Hmmmn.

Eco-friendly Transportation or Profit

Electric Cars

If you talk about eco-friendly vehicle manufacturing these days, you have to consider the direction to which most companies are leaning on: environmental concerns or profit.

Apparently, this is something that will run into the minds of consumers today. Are we really getting what is due when we buy supposedly eco-friendly vehicles today? Are they really eco-friendly or are they just branded add-ons to which will get the ire of attention that most people are looking for today.

This is a matter that we all have to properly dissect. It is true that new hybrid and electric vehicles are additives towards a better environment. But it remains that we have to look more intently on their manufacturer’s actual intent. Is it for profit or really sincere assistance towards environmental improvement?

4 Random Ideas To Green Your Business

Whether you run a restaurant or a dry cleaner, there are things you can do to lower your carbon footprint. It all starts by taking an assessment of your enterprise and looking around at your various departments. You can do a complete overhaul, or you can start small and build from there.

Educate yourself on green issues and research possible solutions and providers. When you go green it imparts a message of sustainability that will grab the interest of todays savvy consumers. It isn’t enough anymore to recycle and call yourself eco friendly. It will take more than that, but keep in mind it should not turn into a competition of who is greener. The mission of becoming more socially aware and responsible should more or less align with your overall company goals and mission.

Let’s take a look below at 4 Random Ideas To Green Your Business.

The 3 R’s (Recycle Reduce Reuse) - What are you recycling? Are there more things that can be recycled at your company? PC equipment is a big e-waste issue today as most landfills are brimming with discarded computer units, monitors, printers, scanners, etc. It may be costly to find a proper solution and provider, but you will reap rewards when you let your current and prospective customers know, that you are different and you care enough about our planet to discard properly and safeguard our future.

Resource: Earth 911

Save Money and Conserve, Too - Again all it takes is for you to take a good look around and see where, what, and how you can conserve more. Take a look at something as simple as the ink in your office printers. The ink can be refilled at Cartridge World, versus buying brand new each time. This method is two-fold in that it conserves and will save you money, too. The ink for my small home office printer brand new costs about $25, but to refill at Cartridge World, it sets me back all of $13.

Use Energy Efficient Products - More and more major manufacturers are creating energy efficient products. Look for the EPA’s label titled “Energy Star” which certifies the item as meeting standards for energy efficiency.

Enlist a Consultant - If your wanting to go big, and perform a complete overhaul of your operations, your best bet is to seek the services of a consultant. Find an architect or interior designer that specialize in green design and/ or green renovation. If you’re wanting to green the outdoors part of your company, seek the services of a professional eco friendly landscaper.

Stay tuned for my next article, as i will cover More Random Ideas to Green Your Business including: Green Your Site or Blog, Educate Your Employees on Green Issues, and Have a Green Giveaway or Contest.

As i stated earlier, there are many strategies to green your business, these 7 are but a few random ideas to get you going, and to ignite additional ideas.

Mow Your Lawn with the Sunlawn Traditional Way

Sunnylawn Mower

To keep our landscapes and lawns looking good, we often need to mow them down and trim them properly for that added good look. However, we have turned to the usual gasoline-powered mowers today and this may soon be diminishing in the next couple of months. The reason for this is that rising costs of fuel are not that easy on the pocket and the pollution that they create is equally another issue up for discussion.

Manual mowers are being revived today and Sunlawn is resurging this popular way of mowing lawns that was introduced in the 1830’s. Other than being a good alternative towards a bit of exercise, it helps get your garden looking good in the way that it should be.

Although push or “reel” mowers were originally developed in the 1830s, Mr. Jarvis and his company, Sunlawn, created a remarkable resurgence in their popularity. His dedication to revitalize gardening the way it is meant to be and an increase in environmental awareness and events such as Earth Day help provide practical steps that consumers can easily take to help the environment.

This is a really cool idea, works especially well with people who are on their annual holidays, of course it has to be somewhere with plenty of sun, otherwise they may get stranded!

However with plenty of sun the electric engine will glide through the water silently and at around five miles an hour, the batteries will hold a charge of around six hours, which means that there is plenty of power to get around even if the sun is a little low.
