Ikea Invest in Solar Power

Ikea already has a great image with the eco friendly people of the world, after all, they do sell some eco friendly goods. Furthermore,  everything is flat packed  in storage and the transportation is kept to a minimum.

But, it seems that Ikea is going even further than that with a a $77 billion investment into its Green Tech Energy Fund. The idea being to develop a reasonably priced solar panel kit for use in the home. Sounds great, because if Ikea can do for eco tech what they have done with furniture,  then they will make it accessible to a broader base of people.

Keetsa Launches Eco-Friendly and Green Search Engine Gooef.com!

Keetsa launches a new eco-friendly and green search engine called, Gooef.com.

We decided on acronyms ef for “eco-friendly” since Googreen.com and Gooeco.com were taken. Besides, Gooef is a lot shorter than Googreen.

How to use it?

Well, we’ve handpicked some eco-friendly and green blogs and sites so you only get eco-friendly and green search results.

For example, you can type “designer bags” on Gooef and get a good list of eco-friendly designer bags back as the result.

Here’s a current list of sites included in the new eco-friendly and green search engine:

keetsa.com | groovyvegetarian.com | inhabitat.com | treehugger.com | buildinggreentv.com | bdpollution.blogspot.com | blog.jollygreengirl.com | equitygreen.typepad.com | victoria-e.com | ecoshopper.net | g2bgreen.com | carteroosterhouse.com | re-nest.com

If you have an eco-friendly and green site and would like to be added, please send us an e-mail at webmaster [at] gooef.com.

BioJet Makes History as First 100% Biodiesel Flight

In Reno, NV the first flight powered by 100% biodiesel took place two weeks ago with the Bio Jet.

The Bio Jet is the creation of Green Flight International and although it has flown in the past with a mixture of jet fuel and biodiesel, last week was the first time, that it flew with only biodiesel. The plane is a L-29 military aircraft and this is what the founders of Green Flight International had to say in response to their concept:

“Out of concern for our global environment, Green Flight International was conceived by Douglas Rodante in April 2006 to serve as a platform for future development in the use of environmentally-friendly fuels in aviation and elsewhere. “It is imperative that the global community take immediate steps to reduce our carbon footprint, because we can no longer afford to wait while our environment continues to degrade.” said Rodante. “By implementing even a small amount of bio-degradable fuel in our transportation system we can significantly reduce the CO2 (greenhouse gasses) and NOx (the precursor to smog) that contribute to global warming.”

Check out this video about Sustainable Design at Postopolis.

Postopolis was an NYC-based event where designers, architects and bloggers had a chat about how we can all come together to work for a more sustainable future. On the panel were Graham Hill from Treehugger, Metropolis magazine Editor Susan Szenasy, Jill from Inhabitat and Allan Chochinov at Core77.

They talked about sustainability, design, green building and urbanism and tons more.

Cool Recycled Bags

Recycled Bags

Recycled Bags 2

Recycled Bags 3

Check out some of the creative uses of these recycled luxury bags from Baumm and some of the details of what each bag is made out of.

Some of the bags consist of market banners, street banners, and highway banners among some funny recycled materials.  Save earth and get one of these instead of getting a brand name bag.  (Well, at least I tried. ha)

I stumbled across an eye-catching booth featuring Baumm’s colorful recycled bags. Repurposing old vinyl posters and billboards to make bags isn’t a new trend (Freitag seems to be leading the way in Europe and now companies from Alchemy Goods to Feuerwear are doing similar things). But we love Baumm’s use of even more colorful and one-of-a-kind publicity banners, billboards, and advertisements reclaimed from the streets of Argentina and elsewhere.
