I just read a fantastic (but very long) article on the state of recycling in Chicago. In Chicago there is the blue bag program, which is the city’s recycing initiative started by then Mayor Harold Washington in the early 80’s.
Recycling efforts have made a small dent in the garbage in Chicago, but what about the landfill situation.
It isn’t enough to simply pick it up, and then leave it waste away un-hinged. Also as the article

There is no doubt that landfills are a blot on the landscape, but recent research show that although landfills are not very nice places to be, they are in fact full of dumped electrical items. In Japan, it was found that they throw away twenty million mobile phones every year. These contain copper, gold, lead, palladium, tin, titanium and zinc.
If we consider the amount of dumped computers too, then there is a real wealth of resources being dump

“There is no stigma any more of wearing hand-me-downs or shopping at Salvation Army or Goodwill”.
This is what Kathryn Finney, otherwise known as The Budget Fashionista said on the topic of recycling clother, from older kids to younger ones.
It is becoming more popular for parents to hand down the jacket (teen) Greg wore last year, to (younger) Peter who now can fit in it. This is a great eco friendly method to keep good clothing out

Having a party? Perhaps you may even want some napkins available when you dine? Normally, you would see the usual disposable paper napkins but at the rate that trees are disappearing and paper waste growing, the initiative has to come from people who care very for the planet.
Apparently, you can book another eco-friendly alternative thanks to FabiKins. FabiKins offers bamboo-based eco-friendly napkins that are sure to help preach the environmen

New line of eco friendly solar bags have hit the market. Sakku Solar Bags aside from harnessing the power of the sun to juice up electronics and gagdets, is also made using recycled wind sail material.
This is great for many reasons, first instead of having the wind sail cloth end up in landfills, it is re-used and re-purposed into something useful and funky. The solar recycled bags are currently only available in the UK, but plans are in the wo

What do you do with excess garbage that landfills can no longer accommodate? For most, the immediate answer would be to recycle them. But for Ineos, turning waste into fuel is similar to turning trash to gold.
By 2011, this is what Ineos predicts to happen. They are planning to put up a large scale waste to energy facility which will ultimately produce bioethanol and help address the growing fuel problem the world is experiencing at the moment.

Diapers will always be a demand for most parents today. They are badly needed to help assist babies in their daily bowel movements. But while that is only one aspect as far as hygiene is concerned, the matter of getting the best manufactured diapers to heed the comfort level of babies while at the same time is a good buy need to be considered.
Some of these diapers are even harmful the environment. While we could care less with every change of

Here is a great alternative to people and businesses that sell apparels and clothes. Often, the issue of looking for hangers to be able to display their clothes for sale can bring large headaches and apparently this new eco-friendly line of hangers will really be a good product that can assist them in selling their goods better.

It seems the UK have a surplus of serviceable yet out dated computers and despite the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, which should see most electrical items disposed of using the manufacturers own disposal facilities, it is estimated that some twelve and half million older laptops and PC’s have not been recycled or reused.
What’s worse is what is actually happening to these old machines. Twenty five per cent are

The rainy season may be a long way from today but it never hurts to get ready early. Rather than using any ordinary umbrella, why not consider this biodegradable umbrella called “the Brelli”?

One thing that local governments have to address once a new year starts is the fact of making detailed itineraries of their plan for the coming year. The year has just started and for some counties, the best way to detail their projects for the year is how to manage and take out the trash.
Indeed, all countries have to deal with trash and waste management. It has been something that has been going on for years now. While some find the usual lan

Its funny how things that we take for granted are not environmentally friendly, like umbrellas, they use materials that are man made etc, however there is an alternative and one that is biodegradable too.
The frame and handle are made from bamboo and the part that stop the rain from soaking you is made from a biodegradable plastic material made from renewable resources and will totally degrade in a landfill in just over a year.

There are a couple of points to remember, these bowls are definitely not microwave oven proof, oven proof, should not have hot food put in them and generally should be used for fruit and potato chips.

A recent UN University study into electronic waste has suggested that by the year 2020 there will be 12.3 million tonnes of this type of waste being dumped in the European Union every year. That is a lot of waste and will take up a lot of space.
But fortunately there is a solution to this problem, the European eco TV project is in place to look into this problems and have come up with an astonishing but pretty cool way of disposing of this mat

All efforts to help minimize waste and guide people to turn to recycling when it comes to managing their trash is evident. However, the world needs to note that their rising increase in the amount of waste that they need to dispose is slowly nearing limits and the overall victims would be the rest of the inhabitants of earth.
As a means of determining how much waste each individual is producing, this new “chip and bin” has been developed to
