Riot Over "I Am Not a Plastic Bag" Eco-Bag
Anya Hindmarch’s “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” tote is a very popular product these days. So much so that a riot nearly broke out over the tote in Hong Kong last night, which was very reminiscent of those Tickle Me Elmo Christmases.
“By late morning Hong Kong police were asking people to disperse, but many refused to leave, shouting, ‘open the store.’ Department store Harvey Nicholls distributed flyers telling shoppers their supplies of the bag had already sold out to people who had pre-ordered it. Anya Hindmarch’s Hong Kong store also failed to open today morning, causing fury among the crowds of shoppers gathered outside.”

While you are at it, check out the comments and criticisms Ecorazzi has about the designer. Apparently, while the bag is fairly green, it isn’t organic. AND what’s even sadder is that the rioters are probably rioting over the fact these bags are so very popular and not what they stand for. When I go to the grocery store, I use my old, smelly freebie bags my dad always got at conferences when I was a kid. Sure they say things like “Economic Development: Raising the Roof ‘97″ and “Telemart Corp. Gathering Sponsors”, but still. They get the job done.
