Russia test eco friendly bomb

by David Allen on Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Now clearly this would appear to be a total contradiction in terms, I mean how could you possibly have an eco friendly bomb? Yet the Russians have been the first to test the world most powerful vacuum bomb, which of course has the same destructive power as a nuclear bomb but without all nasty radiation stuff.

Russia test eco friendly bomb

The Russian military believe that they the worlds most powerful non-nuclear bomb, that will not contaminate the environment, it just evaporates anything that is alive, nice!

This could begin a new non-nuclear arms race, as the world changes, everyone knows that the use of nuclear bombs if pointless, but a bomb like this could change the whole thing again.

"evaporate"?! as in im going to turn into water vapor?
  • Chris
WTF?! What good is it if it still kills everything?

Are they retarded? These have been around for ages... it's called a neutron bomb, which does the exact same thing: evaporating organic material.

They're good for use as a tactical weapon(i.e. border defense) thanks to the lack of contaminant radiation emission, but if you're attacking other countries, it seems like you'd prefer something that does more damage, like its predecessors, due to being more destructive and causing far greater damage. A and H bombs haven't been completely shown up in that aspect, so they can still be of use.

Hopefully we won't have to use them, but with the current state of things, I wouldn't be surprised if nuclear war broke out in the near future.
  • WHY don't we just use a and h bombs alog with that bomb! That is a scary thought

Note, this bomb is not nearly as powerful as the smallest nuclear bombs, as it has a blast radius of only 300 meters, yielding 47 tons of TNT. So the blast is equivalent to 47 tons of TNT, while the bomb weighs in at what, 8 tons. For comparison, a W88 nuclear warhead yields 475 kilotons (10k times more than this) while the device itself weighs 1/16th of this. So a 160000 times deficiency compared to a nuke (Extends into the millions when you compare it with the b41 25 megaton warhead). conventional explosives based on purely electromagnetic reactions can never get close to the reactions imposed by the strong interaction.

Hehaa... THe application of this weapon would be to attack other countries. You wouldnt use a nuke because there would be too much contamination and fallout. You would get plenty of irradiated land, thats freakin useless. If there is nothing to plunder, the war is pointless. On the upside, this bomb would make for some mad loot times, going through their pockets and looking for loose change and all.

doesn't that make you feel better....they won't harm the environment...while killing millions of people....its revolutionary
  • Cragsy
not evaporated exactly.... more likely atomised =)
also this will not only destroy living matter but clothes etc due to the fact a vacuum bomb is still the ignition of fuel, with massive energy output...

I love this world!! men with small willies trying there hardest to say I have a bigger one than you. What wrong with these people can they find something constructive to do in there own country, like helping the poor the old, the economy. it staggers belief how much is this costing?
  • Interesting ... an eco-friendly bomb that doesn't poison our planet with deadly radiation. Our ecosystems, habitats and wildlife are destroyed and killed immediately, as opposed to a slow death from radiation poisoning. So this is a good thing?

I cannot help but wonder, why in this day and age, countries are still developing weapons of mass destruction like this? Has society not yet advanced enough to be above obliterating each other? Sorry, have lived through several conflicts growing up overseas and have seen how innocent lives and environments are affected first-hand by the decisions of a few. Guess its a controversy with no end, and many sides.

Why can't we just drop daisies on other countries and tell them we love them :p
