ASDA to Launch Eco-CDs

by erin on Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

ASDA will be the first supermarket chain in the UK to stock a new line of environmentally friendly CDs. Customers will soon have the option of buying over 84,000 classics in packaging that is completely compostable!

This new ‘EcoPac’ line will be produced by Universal Music. It will be made out of post-consumer paper-foam that is itself recyclable. The line will be launch at all ASDA stores this week.

The new packaging will be available on 42 titles. The packaging can be recycled along with your old newspapers. Additionally, no lining or booklet will come with the CD — instead, customers must log on to the Universal Music website to get the information that used to be supplied on CD liners.

This is a great move and we can only hope more CD covers go this route.
