Experts from Stansted were involved in a recent trial with Boeing to see how a system where parked aircraft are connected to the mains electrical supply can be redesigned to reduce noise and carbon emissions.

The trial was successful and may result in the new system being rolled out at airports and airlines across the globe.

“It’s a great start and shows me what potential we have to make significant improvements in the environmental impact of Stansted Airport through collaborative efforts across the aviation industry,” commented Andy Jefferson, environment manager for BAA.

Earlier this year, Boeing announced an environmental partnership with Virgin Atlantic that included an order for 15 eco-friendly 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, a joint biofuel demonstration and work to find ways of reducing fuel burn and carbon emissions on the ground.

No word on whether Boeing was looking to make their planes more environmentally friendly!!
